Nandi Sculpture on Chamundi Hill, Near Mysore, Karnataka - Circa 1895

Chamundi Hill is a rocky hill about two miles south-east of the Fort of Mysore. The hill takes its name from the Goddess Chamundi, an emanation of Durga and the guardian deity of the Mysore Rajas, who was worshipped in the temple on the summit. On the road that ascends the hill there is a colossal Nandi image hewn out of a single boulder in 1659. Nandi is the bull sacred to the god Shiva. It is represented with ceremonial bells and garlands.

Hoysaleswara temple, Karnataka - 1870's

Hoysaleswara temple is a temple dedicated to Hindu God Shiva. It was built in Halebidu (in modern Karnataka state) during the Hoysala Empire rule in the 12th century by King Vishnuvardhana. The construction was completed in 1121 CE. During the early 14th century, Halebidu was sacked and looted by Muslim invaders from northern India and the temple fell into a state of ruin and neglect. Rare Frescoes Found in Badami in the Bagalkot District in the north part of Karnataka, India - 1937

The Badami cave temples are a complex of temples located at Badami, a town in the Bagalkot District in the north part of Karnataka, India. They are considered an example of Indian rock-cut architecture, especially Badami Chalukya Architecture. Badami, the capital of the Early Chalukyas, who ruled much of Karnataka in the 6th to 8th centuries, lies at the mouth of a ravine with rocky hills on either side and a town tank in which water from the ravine flows. The town is known for its ancient cave temples carved out of the sandstone hills above.

Jubilee Institute Constructed in 1887, in commemoration of the Jubilee of the Queen Victoria, Empress of India, as a museum for exhibiting the arts, economic and other products of the country. It contains a library of ancient oriental literature and the latest productions of the west. The foundation stone was laid by H.H. the late Maharaja on the 20th June, 1887. The exterior of the building is decorated with figures of Hindu mythology.

Srikanteshwara Temple, Nanjangud - Karnataka 1890's

Nanjangud is one of the Hindu pilgrimage centres of Southern India and is known for the huge ancient Temple of Lord Srikanteshwara dedicated to Lord Shiva, also known as Lord Nanjundeshwara Nanjangud Temple is located in the town on the right bank of river Kapila. Nanjangud is also known as "Dakshina Kashi" or "Varanasi/Prayag of South".
