St John's Church - Calcutta (Kolkata) - 1865

Photograph of St. John's Church from 'Views of Calcutta and Barrackpore' taken by Samuel Bourne in the 1860s. St. John's Church, located in northern Calcutta near the banks of the Hoogly river, was designed by Lieutenant James Agg and built in 1787. St. John's architectural model was based on St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London. The colonnaded verandas were later additions in 1811.
